Vanguard Plumbing & Sewer offer a full range of residential plumbing services ranging from mundane (clogged toilet, garbage disposal, leaky faucet) to the difficult (water heater replacement, sewer line rodding, gas line repair). We pride ourselves on having what’s needed and getting the job done right – the first time. We do minor work for restaurants and businesses (along the same lines as our residential work), but we do not handle major commercial projects – nor do we do 24/7 emergency calls.

A licensed plumber has demonstrated his or her competence as installer of plumbing systems to an official board. This means the holder is qualified in theory and practice with the technical knowledge necessary to maintain plumbing code. Any plumbing code is worthless if it’s not enforced and licensing plays that role.

While there are a wide range of reasons possible, the best guess in most cases is simple wear in the interior mechanisms of the faucet. It happens. Water and time will wear out most metals and there are other factors too – like how hard you turn off the faucet, how often it’s used, etc. Call Vanguard for an inexpensive fix.

While it’s not a huge threat to your home, a running toilet is a sign of something becoming worn out inside the mechanism and requiring replacement. So, it’s easy to fix. The issue is how long you wait. Why? Well, a leaking toilet can cost you over $100 a year in additional water costs. That’s way too much water to waste.

At Vanguard, we fix a lot of garbage disposals and are asked this question all the time. The answer is anything biodegradable is safe – except clam and oyster shells, cornhusks and cobs, and other high fiber foods. No plastic or metal, obviously, and no bones of any type. Watch out for aluminum foil as well – it’s sneaky.

The first thing is taking time to inspect all your pipes on a regular basis. You won’t spot leaks if you’re not looking. Don’t put things down your drains. Keep your eye out for rust or lime at the joints and near the floor or cabinetry where the pipe descends and make sure to call Vanguard immediately if you spot an issue.
